Inc 5000 List: Why does it matter?

3 Facts.

First: 1 in 5 are collecting unemployment benefits – i.e. 30Million Americans are unemployed.

Second: 64 percent of the net new jobs created by small business.

Third: 65% of all businesses fail during the first 10 years according to data from the BLS.

During the first year of human life, the baby will grow and develop at an amazing speed…weight will double in 5 to 6 months, and triple by their first birthday. Ask any new parent or a pediatrician and this initial growth trajectory often is the best predictor of the baby’s future survival and well-being.

Much like in the case of a human baby’s future being predicted in a pediatrician’s office – the Inc 5000 can very well be the best measure of future survival and well-being – especially when the odds are stacked against all new business.

Inc. 5000 is a list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. Inc 5000 ranks companies by overall revenue growth over a three-year period. All 5,000 honoree companies are individually profiled on Inc.com. This years top honoree had a whopping 48,337% growth and with median growth of 165%. By any measure these are impressive numbers. So therefore getting on this list requires consistent growth year over year - making qualifying for the Inc 5000 a near impossible task for many firms.

Having said that, there are 3K+ companies who made the Inc 5000 list as repeat-honorees. These companies are truly impressive and among them are very likely the future Apple, Amazon.com or Microsoft.

This year's Inc 5000 key #:
  • Median Growth: 165%
  • Total Revenue : $209.7 billion
  • Jobs Added: 582,670
  • Repeat Honorees: 3,148

I am grateful to my team’s expertise and service to our clients – a special shout out to Phil Shipos, Carmen Galindo and Raj Simha for making us look great every single time.

I cannot thank Andrea Rickman and Bhaskar Reddy enough for their conviction in our dream, especially early-on, and for their continued trust every day.

However, this recognition from Inc 5000 would not have been possible if it weren’t for the steady and guiding hand of our beloved Kavita Madhavan – who has navigated us through so many troubled waters along the way.

The team at KapData is honored about this ranking and we can’t wait to be back on this list a few more times. We recognize that at the heart of every organization are great people – both past and present. We also know that if we are to be back on the Inc 5000 list it is only going to happen when we attract and retain great talent.

We are looking to onboard talented professionals – we have open positions here in the US – but also wherever you may call home - especially those who believe in our mission.

Give us a shout and let’s explore what we could do together.
